Mother’s Day hits differently when you’re running a business. It’s not just about flowers and cards as it becomes a day of deep reflection. As entrepreneurs, we carry a dual responsibility: to the work we build and to the people we build it for. Our families. Our communities. Ourselves.
It’s easy to get caught in the whirlwind of deadlines, strategy meetings, and growth metrics. But underneath it all, there’s heart. There’s a reason we started. For many of us, it wasn’t just a dream of profit, but of purpose, to create something meaningful, sustainable, and deeply aligned with who we are.
And then there’s the family. The reason we hustle through late nights and early mornings. But it’s not just about providing for them. It’s also about being present with them. That’s the constant tension: showing up fully for both our work and our loved ones. Accountability doesn’t live in just one arena, we’re accountable to our clients, our teams, and our families. And perhaps most importantly, to ourselves. We carry the lessons of our mothers and grandmothers, strength, sacrifice, softness, and grit into everything we do.
We ask: Who am I building this for? Is it for my children? My legacy? My own sense of purpose? The answer is rarely just one thing. It’s a little bit of all of it, ambition and love, drive and duty.
Friendships keep us grounded, families keep us going, and dreams keep us reaching. Good work, the kind that lifts others up, that creates opportunity, that reflects our values, is one of the most honest forms of love. And love, at the end of the day, is what Mother’s Day is all about.
So today, we honour the mothers, the builders, the nurturers, the dreamers. We honour the ones who are doing the both/and – running the meeting and making the school drop-off, bettering their communities and being present for the kiddos all day long.
